InfoGraphicsOne of the names of Allah is al-Wadud, which means the Loving or better translated as the Affectionate. The word Wudd means the expression and manifestation of the love that one feels. God named Himself al-Wadud (the Affectionate) from the same root word. The word was specifically chosen to tell us that God is not merely loving, but that He shows His love to His servants. If one asks how God displays such affection, one can simply make reference to the blessing of existence as one of the greatest bounties and manifestations of love for created beings. God’s love is the most pure form of love because it is not based on need nor want. Other examples of divinely manifested love towards human beings include making Himself known to them, infusing hope within them and moment-to-moment sustenance. If God ceased to sustain created beings for a moment, they would simply fall into non-existence. He is the Creator who gave existence and life and continues to sustain created beings moment-to-moment.
